AN electrical engineer, Mr Abolade Olaniyan, has said that redistribution of transformers that would cater for the electricity needs of communities is the panacea to power generation and distribution problems in Nigeria.
Olaniyan, who was a former Chairman, Oyo State Rural Electrification Board, made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo.
He said that for any intervention to be meaningful in Nigeria’s power distribution, its problems must be properly addressed.
He said that transformers across the country were overloaded, thus rendering generation meaningless even to those who had power supply.
Olaniyan, who is the current Dean, Faculty of Engineering, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, said; “transformers are allocated to communities without bearing in mind the development needs of the areas over time
