Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, at the weekend hinted that the local content policy currently being canvassed by the commission would bring down the cost of electricity in the country.
Dr. Amadi, who gave the hint when the management of National Mirror, Abuja Bureau, paid him a courtesy visit last Friday, said sufficient local content in the power sector would prevent a repeat of what happened in the oil and gas sector where adequate local content is lacking after over 50 years of operation.
The NERC boss said articulated local content in the power would not only help in localising factors of production, but would also provide incentives for operators to employ more Nigerians and train them so as to build capacity.
