Eyo Olagoke Ekpo is the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) commissioner in charge of Market Competition and Rates. Since leaving the private sector in 2001, and joining the public service, he has served in various capacities including Team Leader, Power Sector Reform Team (PSRT) at the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), and later as Team Leader, Gas and Petrochemicals in the same organisation.
During his tenure in the Power Sector Reform Team, between December 2001 and April 2003, he led the PSRT in developing and starting the implementation of the various electric sector reform measures.
He is a former special adviser and Commissioner for Justice in his native, Cross River State.
The Division which he heads at the NERC, the Market Competition and Rates Division, is responsible for seeing to the creation of efficient and competitive market structures and fair pricing in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
TheScoop spoke with him on a range of issues from the tariff system in the sector to unity among NERC commissioners, as part of the first edition of our TS Playbook1 titled ‘Power for the People’. Ekpo came across as a man aware and alive to his responsibilities.
