Following the imminent transition from public to private sector managed electricity industry; the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has asked electricity consumers across the country to demand fair service delivery from distribution networks with the commissioning of its forum offices to oversee complaints of poor service delivery.
The forum offices, which are being commissioned across the country by NERC are to act as quasi-judicial frameworks representing the commission in managing cases of poor service delivery of the various successor distribution networks of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Mr. Godknows Igali, at the commissioning of the Abuja forum office situated in the Gwarimpa District of the city, Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, stressed the importance of a forum office to serve as an avenue for feedback in service delivery from consumers in the emerging electricity industry.
Nebo stated that the office was a critical component of the power sector roadmap, noting that “there must be structures of interaction put in place to amicably resolve complaints without resorting to legal issues when the new owners take over.”
