The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said it was not in any financial mess needless to mention being unable to pay its staff salaries.
The Commission while refuting a report by a national daily yesterday, which claimed that it was in financial mess and could not pay its staff salaries, said the report was an attempt by mischief makers to malign the agency and President Goodluck Jonathan.
The report claimed that a court injunction had ordered the freezing of the accounts of NERC, thereby preventing it from paying its staff salaries for the past two months.
According to the report, the controversy was over the payment of car supply contract awarded to an alleged close ally of President Jonathan, preceding the current management of NERC which the Sam Amadi-led management has refused to pay for.
However, the Commissions assistant general manager, Media, Maryam Abubakar, told LEADERSHIP yesterday that the Commission did not owe its staff any salary arrears, adding that “NERC is financially strong and has duly audited accounts.”
