The technical investigative panel bedeviling instituted by the Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, to investigate the cause of the numerous system collapses in the power sector, has provided insight on the actual problems confronting the sector. According to the panel findings showed that inadequate infrastructure for system disturbance management, obsolete transmission equipment requiring urgent replacement or upgrade and manpower and skill gaps due to long period of non-recruitment and aging workforce, were top on the list of challenges bedevilling the sector. The detailed report of the findings which was presented to the minister recently, also revealed that vegetation challenges along the lines in swampy and difficult terrain with security issues coupled with vandalism of transmission infrastructure and gas pipelines leading to substantial loss of generation and system instability, were also at the root of the issue.
