As it is the case in the oil and gas industry, the high rate vandalism of power installations is contributing to crippling power shortages nationwide, CHIDI UGWU reports
There are myriad problems militating against the stability of Nigeria’s power sector but perhaps the most daunting of all is the issue of vandalism.
This is more so because often times the authorities is faced with no option than to replace pricey equipment which has been vandalised for personal uses before electricity is restored to the affected areas.
There have been lots of hues and cries following the increasing spate of vandalism and its attendant consequence to the much desired stability in electricity supply.
Irked by this ugly development, Vice President Namadi Sambo vowed that government would not tolerate vandalism because of its negative impact on the sector and economy, stressing that, vandals would be treated as economic saboteurs.
