No going back on tariff hike, FG insists
Members of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, and their junior counterparts of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, engaged in a violent confrontation yesterday morning in Benin City that left scores with severe bodily injuries.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the angry workers openly engaged themselves in the free-for-all over certain issues relating to the transfer of the company to a core investor selected under the privatisation programme Trouble started as early as 7a.m. when members of NUEE barricaded entrance to the headquarters of the Benin Distribution Company on Akpakpava Street, preventing people from the premises.
Their grouse was that they were excluded from the meeting being held between representatives of the core investor, the senior staff union and PHCN management in the run up to the handing over. Vigeo Power Consortium won the bid for the Benin Disco earlier this year and has paid the 25 per cent mandatory deposit.
