The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) on Friday said it installed 56,965 pre-paid meters in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina State between January and March.
The Assistant General Manager, Alhaji Baffa Usman, Public Affairs, said this during in Kano.
He said Kano got 46,465, Katsina, 7, 219 and Jigawa received 3, 281 pre-paid meters within the period.
The breakdown of Kano’s share indicates that Dakata got 4,221; Dala, 6,229; Kumbotso, 7,024; Nasarawa 7,623; Sabobgari, 10,062 and Sharada, 1,306.
In Katsina State, Katsina town got 6,549 and Funtua got 670, while in Jigawa, Dutse got 2,795 and Hadeija got 486 pre-paid meters.
Usman said the installation of the meters was ongoing and would cover all residential customers in the three states.
He said monitoring teams had been constituted to detect those by-passing or willfully tampering with the seals of the meters.
The spokesman said customers found tempering or bypassing the meters would pay a penalty of N50,000 and N25,000 for three and one-phased meters, respectively.
